During the initial evaluation it is important to explain the scope of practice of occupational therapy to the client/client’s caregiver. I find that even though clients have scheduled a consultation with an OT, they do not understand clearly what occupational therapy entails. At the start of each evaluation I like to go over the purpose of occupational therapy and what I will be looking for during the evaluation process. It is a lot of information and I often get a deer in headlights look from my clients. This is why I created this handout that is easy to digest and straight to the point. I hand it out to my clients at the end of the session as a tool for them to look over at home and refer to as needed. It is one of my most used tools in my OT toolbox, and hopefully it will become yours too. Feel free to download and share.
