OFFICIALLY AN OT FOR 6 YEARS. HERE IS WHAT I HAVE LEARNED…

2021 marks my 6th year as an occupational therapy practitioner. Here are a few things I have learned:

✔️Building rapport with the patient is one of the most important things. Having a strong bond and earning their trust will definitely make it easier to target those therapeutic goals.

✔️Being flexible and keeping an open mind as a practitioner is a must. As most of us during this pandemic, I found myself switching mindsets quite often in order to best serve my patients/clients. One thing is for sure, I never thought I would be a teletherapist.

✔️Cherish your journey and enjoy each stage of your career. It all really goes by very quickly and each season is super valuable. I look back at my time in OT school, the different settings, the populations I have worked with, and there is no doubt in my mind that each experience has allowed me to become a more well-rounded therapist.

✔️Be a lifelong student. It is okay, to not know it all… but don’t lose the thirst for evolving as a practitioner.
